Happy New Year to all our readers.
Here at Whap control we are getting ready for a busy 2005.
Recording of the new album Pack of Jokers starts in February and the gig list is mounting up. We welcome Rick back after a very successful Steeleye tour and we’re all really looking forward to the year ahead.

The December edition of Stirrings Magazine featured a lengthy interview and several photographs. This is now available online at Stirrings

Voting has now closed for the Dance Band Category at this year’s Radio Two Folk Awards so thanks to everyone who voted. The results are announced on 14 February.

Cartoon
We are pleased to announce the long awaited launch of The Adventures of the Whaps, A brand new cartoon strip. Have a look at Whap Adventures Suggestions for future storylines gratefully received.

Competition
Winner of the November 2004, Name the Tune, competition is Phil Barry with his suggestion Toots Suite which we thought was charming. There were some excellent entries from all over the globe and we were quite taken aback by the response so thanks to everyone who took the time.

The December 2004 Guess Stuart’s weight difference was won by Liz Bright who guessed Stu’s weight difference perfectly at 4lbs. Well done Liz. Thanks again for all other entries.

This months competition is all about New Year’s Resolutions. All you have to do is match up the resolutions (listed opposite) to the band member Please email your entry to competition@whapweasel.com Closing date 31 January 2005.

On the lookout
Stuart is in search of a lightweight Baritone Sax (Carbon Fibre, Other ?). If anyone knows where to find such a beast could they please let us know? Thanks.

Stop Press
Those of you who have been following the news recently will be aware of the flooding in Carlisle and the Tyne Valley. At the point of writing, Rick is still marooned in Carlisle whilst Brian was involved in a dramatic incident on Saturday night when he and several other residents of Haydon Bridge in Northumberland tried to prevent the River Tyne entering their houses.

Whilst building a makeshift flood wall in his back garden he lent backwards on his fence for a temporary rest and the fence collapsed. However, thanks to excellent co-ordination and balance (so important for one who dances The Morris) he fell in and had to be rescued by, of all things, The AA. This story has now passed into legend in Haydon Bridge
